National Travel & Tourism Week: Social Media Happy Hour

Monday, May 6 beginning at 4:00pm, Visit Muskegon will celebrate U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel & Tourism Week with “Social Media Happy Hour” at Hennessy’s Pub! This free event will offer a cash bar, featuring a specially crafted “Visit Muskegon” cocktail, a chance to win prizes like Michigan’s Adventure tickets and, of course, great information on promoting your business.

Facebook is the largest social network in the world. Do you manage a Facebook business page, or are thinking of starting one?  Is your brand represented and easy to find?  Learn the process of creating and maintaining a Facebook Business Page and establishing a plan to engage with your audience.

Hackley Crafts: Hoop Wreath

Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy

The USS Silversides Submarine Museum Lecture Series “Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy,” concludes in May with one last lecture, May 6 at 6:00pm. “The Cost of Manufacturing for WWII,” presented by George  Maniates is the Grand Finale of this winter’s lecture series which features a temporary exhibit from The National WWII Museum of New Orleans entitled Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy.  This exhibit tells the inspiring story of the Home Front effort that produced tanks, planes, ships and guns with staggering speed and unparalleled energy.  It was a surge in productivity that not only brought the country out of depression, but also created mighty military forces, supplied the Allies abroad, and opened new doors of opportunity and social change.  The exhibit will run from May 20-August 5, 2019. Note: For the month of May, USS Silversides Submarine Museum members can show their cards at the Lakeshore Museum Center and enjoy free general admission to their sites, including the Main Museum as well as the Hackley & Hume homes, the Firebarn Museum and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era.  Muskegon has so many wonderful things to offer and they are excited to partner with the Lakeshore Museum Center to showcase a few of them with their members.

Team Trivia Game Show

The Muskegon Farmers’ Market, owned and operated by the City of Muskegon, is dedicated to showcasing the best in locally-grown foods, flowers, nursery stock, handicrafts and baked goods. The Market also hosts The Flea where everything imaginable is sold.

Mariachi Music with Gabriel Estrada III

Group Bicycle Tour
Tuesdays @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Meet in the parking lot behind Unruly Brewing Company every Tuesday at 6:00pm for a 90 minute group bike ride!  There are five different groups to fit your biking needs and abilities and helmets are strongly encouraged.  Loaner helmets are always available at City Hub Cyclery (585 W. National Tourism Week: Muskegon Convention Center Ground Breaking

The new convention center will feature 20,000 square feet of multi-functional, divisible space with an expansive pre-function area overlooking Muskegon Lake. Junk to Jewels Rummage Sale

Wednesday – Saturday, May 8 – 11, come to the Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club for the “Junk to Jewels Rummage Sale!”  Your purchase of gently used items will help support the preservation of their beautiful, historic downtown venue.  The Pre-Party is May 8 from 5:30pm – 9:00pm.  The entry fee is $5 and includes appetizers and beverages.  Admission is free for the sale on May 10 – 11 from 9:00am – 3:00pm.

Muskegon Heritage Museum Opens for the Season

The Muskegon Heritage Museum will open for the season Thursday, May 9!  This museum is dedicated to preserving the economic, industrial and social history of the greater Muskegon area! With over 12,000 feet of display space, it spans three floors and features informational exhibits, artifacts and photos pertaining to Muskegon’s industries, historic homes and businesses.  They have a working steam engine with a line shaft that runs 11 machine tools, as well as a working Brunswick pinsetter, a spring winding machine, and over 80 other companies represented in exhibits.

Hours are 11:00am to 4:00pm, Thursday – Saturday through mid-October and by appointment all year.  Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students.  Children under 6, active duty military and MHA members are free. Special group and school tour rates may apply. For more information call 231-722-1363 or visit www.muskegonheritage.org.

National Tourism Week: Lunch & Learn

The Winds Celebrate Gospel Music

Free Latin Dance Party

Every other Sunday, March 3 – May 13 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, come to Unruly Brewing Co. in downtown Muskegon for bi-monthly, free Latin Dance Classes offered by the Facebook group MADLOS!  They will cover simple steps, turns and spins that are easy to learn and fun to do.  No partner or experience is needed to participate.  The lesson is from 5:00pm – 6:00pm with music continuing until 7:00pm so you can practice what you’ve learned or show off what you know.  If you don’t need a lesson and just want to dance, join them at 6:00pm.  There is no cost for the lesson, but they are accepting donations that will go to support the Child Abuse Counsel of Muskegon County.  MADLOS offers different dance styles, including Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, and more.  Keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what they’re up to next.
