Ongoing Events:

Summer Adventures at Muskegon Winter Sports Complex
Don’t wait for snow…luge in the summer! The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex is open Saturdays and Sundays in the summer from 10:00am – 2:00pm so you can enjoy a variety of warm weather sporting activities. www.msports.org
• Wheel Luge:
Slide down the only wheel luge track in North America! Wheel luge is done on a specially designed track with the same sleds used on the ice, but with wheels attached. The design of the track, adaptive equipment and surrounding common areas also accommodate persons with disabilities. Shorter than the ice track, average runs take approximately 9 seconds while covering 300 feet of track.
• Learn Archery Fundamentals:
Muskegon State Park visitors can stop by the Sports Complex for a round of archery guided by an instructor. All participants receive a quick lesson explaining the basic fundamentals of archery. Participants can then shoot rounds of arrows at the controlled archery range. This activity is fun for ages 6 and older.

Muskegon South Pierhead Light Tours
Tour the Muskegon South Pierhead Light Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day! For more information call 1-844-MLIGHTS.

Please note: Children must be at least 3 feet tall in order to climb. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

Storytime with the Lighthouse Lady
Bring the kids to Storytime with the Lighthouse Lady every Monday at 3:00pm during July and August!  You can also tour the Muskegon South Pierhead Light Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day! During the month of July, tours will be offered on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00pm – 8:00pm as well.  For more information call 1-844-MLIGHTS.

Pigeon Hill Brewing Co: Monday Night Bike Ride
Monday evenings, beginning at 6:00pm, come to Pigeon Hill Brewing Co. to join in a group bicycle ride!  The goal is for everyone to start and finish together for a total ride time of 90 minutes. Please arrive early.  The ride begins promptly at 6:00pm.  You’ll travel from Pigeon Hill to Pere Marquette Beach via the Lakeshore Bike Trail (10-11 miles).  For more information call (231) 375-5184.

Team Trivia Game Show
Mondays at 6:30pm, come to Racquet’s Downtown Grill for the Team Trivia Game Show!  Groups of any size are invited to play for free with prizes for the top three teams!  Categories range from pop culture and entertainment, to sports, history, science, culture and general knowledge.  Your live host will also offer many genres of music throughout the game, plus, you’ll enjoy food and drink specials each week.  For more information, call (231) 726-4007.

MADLOS Presents: Street Dance
Mondays, June 3 – August 27 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, come to downtown Muskegon’s Olthoff Stage for free Latin or Swing dance lessons from MADLOS!  Start with a lesson, then try your moves on the sidewalk at these free events.  No partner or experience is needed.  While the cost is free, donations are appreciated.  Keep an eye on the MADLOS Facebook page to see what style of dance will be offered each week.

Roll On Muskegon
Roll On Muskegon is a casual, family friendly, community bike ride on the streets of Muskegon. Every Monday night at 6:30pm, they leave as a group from the downtown Muskegon Farmer’s Market to visit and explore a different neighborhood of Muskegon.

Muskegon Farmers’ Market & Flea Market
The Muskegon Farmers’ Market, owned and operated by the City of Muskegon, is dedicated to showcasing the best in locally-grown foods, flowers, nursery stock, handicrafts and baked goods. The Market also hosts The Flea where everything imaginable is sold.

Montague Farmers’ Market
The Montague Farmers’ Market opens the first Saturday in June and runs every Saturday through October. The Market is also open on Wednesdays in July, August, and September.  Market hours are from 9:00am – 1:00pm.

Sweetwater Local Foods Market

Summatime 2019

Group Bicycle Tour
Meet in the parking lot behind Unruly Brewing Company every Tuesday at 6:00pm for a 90 minute group bike ride!  There are five different groups to fit your biking needs and abilities and helmets are strongly encouraged.  Loaner helmets are always available at City Hub Cyclery (585 W. Serene Yoga Beach Series: Muskegon State Park
Serene Yoga will host a Beach Yoga Series June 5 – August 28 at Muskegon State Park. Classes will be held Wednesday mornings from 10:00am -11:00am. The drop-in rate is $10.  Join Diana and enjoy the serenity of the great lakes as she guides participants through stretching and balancing poses while focusing on breath work and relaxation. Jazz on the Patio

Dancing into Sunset Free Weekly Dance Party
Season 3 of the “Dancing into Sunset“ free outdoor concert happens from 7:00pm – 9:30pm on Thursdays! Movies on Deck
The 13th annual Movies on Deck film series features great movies showing at dusk on Friday evenings on the USS LST 393! Each showing is free to the public, but donations are welcome.  Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs and weather appropriate clothing.  Popcorn, soda and snacks will be available at the event.  In the event of inclement weather, showings will be moved inside the ship, and will begin at 10:00pm. July 12 it’s “The Wizard of Oz” (1939)!
The museum is open for regular tours from 10:00am – 5:00pm seven days a week with the last daily tour starting at 4:00pm. More information is available at www.lst393.org.

Rootdown’s Yoga on Deck

Backstage Theatre Workshops for Kids
July 9 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The Lakeshore Museum Center and Muskegon Civic Theatre invite children ages 6-13 to join them for interactive theatre workshops! Each workshop will be a chance to learn about different behind-the-scenes jobs that are required to put on a show! July 9 it’s Theatre Make-up Techniques – Learn how to make animals, bruises and other cool faces.

Beach Yoga Fundraiser

Muskegon’s 150th Celebration

To recognize 150 glorious years in the City of Muskegon, there will be a three-day concert series at Heritage Landing Thursday – Saturday, July 11 – 13, 2019 that will include Bret Michaels, Gretchen Wilson, Kansas, Warrant, and Freddie Jackson!
On Thursday evening, hear Grammy award nominee R&B singer Freddie Jackson with hits like, You are My Lady and Jam Tonight for just $10.
On Friday there will be two great bands with Gretchen Wilson, coming through with several country mega hits including Billboards #1 Redneck Woman along with American rock band Kansas with hits such as, Carry On My Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind for just $30.

YMCA Camp Pendalouan Mom & Kids Camp
July 12 – July 14
Friday – Sunday, July 12 – 14, spend some quality time with your kids at the YMCA Camp Pendalouan Mom & Kids Camp!  Moms, grandmas, aunts and older sisters are invited to enjoy a weekend with those special kids in your life on the banks of Big Blue Lake!  They cook, clean and even entertain with activities like archery, bb guns, crafts, swimming and boating and horseback riding.  For those adventurous guests, they offer a variety of high-challenge activities, including the high ropes course and climbing wall.  Evenings include a campfire with songs, skits and s’mores, as well as a twilight hike for the truly brave.  Staff are available to assist with kids so that the grown-ups may enjoy the activities as well.  Meals are served family-style and always offer a variety of items to suit everyone’s palate.  Cabins are chosen upon arrival and are available per family or to share with friends.  Check-in is Friday afternoon; check-out is Sunday after brunch.  For more information call 231-722-9622.

Muskegon SHOdown Pro/Am Salmon Tournament
July 12 – July 14
Friday – Sunday, July 12 – 14, it’s the “Muskegon SHOdown Pro/Am Salmon Tournament!”  Formerly known as the “Muskegon Lumbertown Challenge,” the inaugural Muskegon SHOdown will have a guaranteed 1st place payout of $10,000/PRO* and $5000/AM*!  The tournament will be held again at Great Lakes Marina which continues to be a great host. Services included at Great Lakes Marina are, fuel, floating docks, clean facilities, and an outdoor pool for their customers.
In addition to the biggest payout in Muskegon’s history, this year’s main event, “The BigSHO,” will see the Pro and AM divisions being brought back to the format!  PRO Division will require observers, have a minimum cash payout to third place and be Catch 12/Weigh 10.  AM Division does not require observers, will pay cash down to at least tenth place and be Catch 12/Weigh 6.  Big fish this year again will be a 100% payout with separate pots for each division.
For the women and kids, it’s the 3rd Annual Terry Weber Michigan Stinger Memorial Event on Friday July 12.  10% of the entry fees will go directly to the Terry Weber Memorial Fund which is setup through the DNR fisheries.  Proceeds from Terry’s Fund are used for education, as well as to purchase equipment for children.
The Captains Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 10 at Great Lakes Marina at 7:00pm, with registration starting at 5:00pm.  The results and prize ceremony will be on Sunday afternoon for the main event.

Music at the Light: Rough and Tumble

July 12 at 7:00pm, it’s Music at the Light featuring “Rough and Tumble!” Prolific song writers, performers and born travelers; Pennsylvania-born Mallory Graham and California-born Scott Tyler have lived in their 16’ camper since 2015, making tire tracks nationwide since 2011 as a traveling Folk-Americana duo.  Their history goes back as far as New England in the fall of 2007 and as close as going from friends to bandmates to married bandmates.  This Americana duo is excited to be part of our lighthouse concert series.  For more information call 231-845-7417.

Central Michigan University Double Show Weekend

The 2019 Summer Theatre Festival at The Playhouse at White Lake (formerly Howmet Playhouse) happens every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from July 11 through August 24! All shows begin at 7:30pm (unless otherwise noted).  July 12 and 13, it’s a Central Michigan University Double Show Weekend!

It’s begins July 12 with Neil Simon at his most humane, compassionate best. “California Suite” is directed by Elaine Daugherty and is a humorous confection divided into four parts:
• In Visitor from New York, Hannah, a magazine writer, is joined by her ex-husband, the question being with whom should their daughter spend the next six months? The banter flies fast and furious, but Hannah’s well-wrought artifice crumbles as her fears take hold.
• The Visitor from Philadelphia is a wife who arrives at the suite, catching her husband “en flagrante delicto” with a drunken hooker.
• In Visitors from London Academy Award nominee Diana returns from the ceremony empty-handed to her husband, Sidney, whose homosexuality will be no comfort tonight.
• The Visitors from Chicago are two couples ending a disastrous vacation they should not have shared.

Fresh Coast Fitness Festival 2019
July 13 – July 14
Saturday and Sunday, July 13 – 14, it’s the Fresh Coast Fitness Festival 2019 at Pere Marquette Beach!   This three person (m/m/m or f/f/f) team competition guarantees to test your fitness in ways that you just can’t inside the box.  They plan to take full advantage of the sandy shoreline and maybe the water, too.  But, what about the barbells? Don’t worry, a heavy lift event will be one of the day’s highlights.
Included with registration is a one of a kind shirt/tank so that you can show off those weapons of mass destruction as you strut up and down the beach this summer.  In addition, each team will receive a ridiculous grab bag of goodies, as well as a raffle ticket for a few top secret giveaways.  They want everyone to win something!
It’s going to be a party!  The loudspeakers will be fueling your workouts, and The Deck (Muskegon’s best barbeque restaurant) will be fueling your body.  The Deck is conveniently located just a Frisbee-toss away from their event on the beach.
This event is rain or shine with two large tents for athletes and guests to relax in between events.  One of the tents will double as a back-up workout area if Mother Nature decides not to play nice.  They encourage you to bring your own pop up tent and beach towels as there will be plenty of space to sprawl out. StandUp for the Cure *Change of Venue to Ross Park, Norton Shores*

Free Kids Yoga at the Market

Smartphone Photography Workshop

Saturday, July 13 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, come to Hackley Public Library for the Smartphone Photography Workshop!  Learn how you can take better photos with the smartphone you own!  Pro photographer, Jeff Smith, will show you strategies for improving your photos, as well as how to make simple edits using the SnapSeed app. There will be time to practice and ask questions. Maranatha Summer Concert Series: Kerrie Roberts

Maranatha Bible & Missionary Conference offers free concerts every Saturday night during the summer!
