Ongoing Events:

Summer Adventures at Muskegon Winter Sports Complex
Don’t wait for snow…luge in the summer! The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex is open Saturdays and Sundays in the summer from 10:00am – 2:00pm so you can enjoy a variety of warm weather sporting activities.  www.msports.org
Wheel Luge:
Slide down the only wheel luge track in North America! Wheel luge is done on a specially designed track with the same sleds used on the ice, but with wheels attached. The design of the track, adaptive equipment and surrounding common areas also accommodate persons with disabilities. Shorter than the ice track, average runs take approximately 9 seconds while covering 300 feet of track.
Learn Archery Fundamentals:
Muskegon State Park visitors can stop by the Sports Complex for a round of archery guided by an instructor. All participants receive a quick lesson explaining the basic fundamentals of archery. Participants can then shoot rounds of arrows at the controlled archery range. This activity is fun for ages 6 and older.

Muskegon South Pierhead Light Tours
Tour the Muskegon South Pierhead Light Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day! For more information call 1-844-MLIGHTS.
Docent-led Tower Tours Admission:
• $2 – Kids 11 and under
• $3 – Military and veterans
• $4 – 12 and up
Please note: Children must be at least 3 feet tall in order to climb. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

Storytime with the Lighthouse Lady
Bring the kids to Storytime with the Lighthouse Lady every Monday at 3:00pm during July and August!  You can also tour the Muskegon South Pierhead Light Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day! During the month of July, tours will be offered on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00pm – 8:00pm as well.  For more information call 1-844-MLIGHTS.

Pigeon Hill Brewing Co: Monday Night Bike Ride
Monday evenings, beginning at 6:00pm, come to Pigeon Hill Brewing Co. to join in a group bicycle ride!  The goal is for everyone to start and finish together for a total ride time of 90 minutes. Please arrive early.  The ride begins promptly at 6:00pm.  You’ll travel from Pigeon Hill to Pere Marquette Beach via the Lakeshore Bike Trail (10-11 miles).  For more information call (231) 375-5184.

Team Trivia Game Show
Mondays at 6:30pm, come to Racquet’s Downtown Grill for the Team Trivia Game Show!  Groups of any size are invited to play for free with prizes for the top three teams!  Categories range from pop culture and entertainment, to sports, history, science, culture and general knowledge.  Your live host will also offer many genres of music throughout the game, plus, you’ll enjoy food and drink specials each week.  For more information, call (231) 726-4007.

MADLOS Presents: Street Dance
Mondays, June 3 – August 27 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, come to downtown Muskegon’s Olthoff Stage for free Latin or Swing dance lessons from MADLOS!  Start with a lesson, then try your moves on the sidewalk at these free events.  No partner or experience is needed.  While the cost is free, donations are appreciated.  Keep an eye on the MADLOS Facebook page to see what style of dance will be offered each week.

Roll On Muskegon
Roll On Muskegon is a casual, family friendly, community bike ride on the streets of Muskegon. Every Monday night at 6:30pm, they leave as a group from the downtown Muskegon Farmer’s Market to visit and explore a different neighborhood of Muskegon.

Muskegon Farmers’ Market & Flea Market
The Muskegon Farmers’ Market, owned and operated by the City of Muskegon, is dedicated to showcasing the best in locally-grown foods, flowers, nursery stock, handicrafts and baked goods. The Market also hosts The Flea where everything imaginable is sold.

Montague Farmers’ Market
The Montague Farmers’ Market opens the first Saturday in June and runs every Saturday through October. The Market is also open on Wednesdays in July, August, and September.  Market hours are from 9:00am – 1:00pm.

Sweetwater Local Foods Market

Summatime 2019

Group Bicycle Tour
Meet in the parking lot behind Unruly Brewing Company every Tuesday at 6:00pm for a 90 minute group bike ride!  There are five different groups to fit your biking needs and abilities and helmets are strongly encouraged.  Loaner helmets are always available at City Hub Cyclery (585 W. Serene Yoga Beach Series: Muskegon State Park
Serene Yoga will host a Beach Yoga Series June 5 – August 28 at Muskegon State Park. Classes will be held Wednesday mornings from 10:00am -11:00am. The drop-in rate is $10.  Join Diana and enjoy the serenity of the great lakes as she guides participants through stretching and balancing poses while focusing on breath work and relaxation. Muskegon Bike Time 2019
July 18 – July 21
Now in its 13th year, Muskegon Bike Time has been promoting Muskegon and the lakeshore as a great place for motorcyclists and the general public to gather and enjoy the spectacle, attractions, entertainment and food offered during this four day event.
The event takes place annually the third weekend in July.  This year’s dates will be July 18th through the 21st, 2019.
The mission of Muskegon Bike Time is to produce entertainment opportunities in Muskegon aimed at attracting a broad spectrum of motorcycle enthusiasts for a vacation experience on Michigan’s West Coast.
“Over the years, Muskegon Bike Time has been an economic boon to hotels, restaurants, bars, gas stations, local retailers and other local tourist attractions”, said Tim Lipan, spokesperson for Muskegon Bike Time. “All of the events surrounding this special motorcycle weekend provide an economic impact of over $30 million yearly to the local economy and showcases all we have to offer in Muskegon and along the lakeshore.”
With activities and events occurring in the downtown Muskegon area and throughout the county, the focal point of Bike Time activities will be at the Hot Rod Harley Davidson property in downtown Muskegon.   Activities include:

RIDES
Experience a variety of scenic rides along the beautiful West Michigan shoreline with stunning views of Lake Michigan, pristine rivers, and massive sand dunes, as well as winding roads through picturesque forests and interesting small towns.
Muskegon Bike Time promotes a variety of scenic rides, throughout the West Michigan shoreline, for visiting bikers. They include:
• Patriot Ride– Take a police escorted non-stop scenic ride of the area with over 200 of your closest friends. Ride is generally 1.5 hours long. A $10 donation per person supports Every Woman’s Place. Sunday, July 21, 2019. Registration starts at 10am. Kick stands up at 11am.
• 7 Lakes Northern Ride – scenic ride showcasing 7 different lakes and many interesting small towns in West Michigan.
• Hot Rod Harley & Downtown – leaving Hot Rod Harley Davidson in downtown Muskegon, cruise the strip of Western Avenue, which is open to motorcycle traffic only, which includes beer tents, brewery’s, restaurants, vendors and other activities.
• Pere Marquette Beach – visit one of the most beautiful sugar sand beaches in the country right on Lake Michigan.
• Lake Shore Drive Southern Ride – this ride takes you along the Lakeshore to resort town of Grand Haven and the Dutch village of Holland and several lakes and rivers.

MUSIC
Music is everywhere!  Live concerts, beer tents, street performers and local bars & brewery’s provide music of all genres.

All concerts are free and presented by Little River Casino & Resort on the main stage located at Hot Rod Harley-Davidson.

EVENTS
Bike Time provides all forms of attractions and contests including:
• West Michigan Arm Wrestling Championships.
The 2019 West Michigan Arm Wrestling Championships will be held in the Budweiser Beverage tent located at Hot Rod Harley-Davidson. Weigh-ins and registrations from 10am to 12pm. Competition begins at 1pm.
• Pong Shoot Out
Join our first ever pong shoot out competition. Preliminary rounds will be held Thursday and Friday 4pm to 8pm. Championship rounds will be held on Saturday from 4pm to 8pm.
Registration is $25 a team.  Winner will take home $400 in cash. The runner up will take home $200 in cash.

Camp in the middle of the party at Hot Rod Harley-Davidson during Muskegon Bike Time. RV and tent spaces available.

Muskegon Bike Time Camping by ABATE
July 18 – July 21
Muskegon Bike Time is on! Thursday, July 18 – Sunday, July 21, downtown Muskegon will be filled with motorcycles, vendors, live music and much more!  How would you like to camp in the middle of the party at Hot Rod Harley-Davidson? RV and tent spaces are available.  The main campground is located on the grounds of Hot Rod Harley-Davidson. Overflow camping is located across the street (Shoreline Drive/Bus 31) from the dealership.  You will be placed in your spot when you arrive on a first come basis. All camping is priced for the weekend (Thursday July 18 to Sunday July 21) regardless of when you arrive.
No pets, 24 Hour security, community fire in main campground, no electric or water hook ups. You may arrive beginning on Thursday July 18 at 12:00pm, but no later than 10:00pm.  Friday and Saturday arrivals begin at 9:00am.  You must be loaded and off the premises no later than 4:00pm on Sunday, July 21.

RootTalk

Muskegon Heritage Museum’s Community Days
July 18 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Enjoy one of Muskegon’s “Amazing Museums” for free during Muskegon Heritage Museum’s Community Days!
The Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving the economic, industrial and social history of the greater Muskegon area.  Their collection includes informational exhibits, artifacts and photos pertaining to Muskegon’s industries, historic homes and businesses.  They have a working steam engine with a line shaft that runs 11 machine tools as well as a working Brunswick pinsetter, a spring winding machine, and over 80 other companies represented in exhibits.  Don’t let the modest storefront fool you, the museum has over 12,000 square feet of display space, spanning three floors!

Figure Drawing Workshop with Angelica Hay

Thursday, July 18 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm, the Muskegon Museum of Art is offering a Figure Drawing Workshop with Angelica Hay! Angelica is a figurative painter based out of Grand Rapids, MI.  During the session, she will provide guided instruction around sketching a live model.  The workshop will be held in the galleries and is open to all skill levels.  Participants must bring their own sketching materials and paper. The Hound of the Baskervilles

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most celebrated Sherlock Holmes story gets a gloriously funny makeover. When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face, and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr. Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death, and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.  Packed full of the verbal and visual ingenuity that hit comedy team Peepolykus is known for, and offering abundant opportunities for silly comedy and slapstick, this version will suit any theatre company or drama group looking for a sublimely funny adaptation of a classic tale.

YMCA Camp Pendalouan Father Son Camp
July 19 – July 21
Friday – Sunday, July 19 – 21, it’s the YMCA Camp Pendalouan Father Son Camp…manly meals, maximum fun, mom-approved!  Generations of men and boys come together for 3 days of laughter and bonding, as well as a darn good time.  Activities are offered through-out the weekend and include archery, bb guns, crafts, swimming and boating, and horseback riding.  For those adventurous guests, they offer a variety of high challenge activities, including the high ropes course, climbing wall and zipline.  They also offer White River Canoe trips, hikes to Sleepy Hollow and the immensely popular Ultimate Frisbee game.  Staff is available to assist with kids so that the grown-ups may enjoy the activities as well.  Feel free to join in any offered activity or simply do your own thing.  As with their other family programs, meals are served family-style and are prepared with the hearty appetites of men in mind!

Music at the Light: Steel Doin’ It

Summer days are for unwinding, and what better way to enjoy a summer’s evening than relaxing along the water on the lawn of the White River Light Station! Their family-friendly events are free to the public.  Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy time together watching a movie, or listening to folk inspired music while visiting and exploring the White River Light Station. This Texas-native started playing piano at nine years old, then took up guitar and drums when he was 10.  From there, he never looked back.  Since signing his first record deal with Sparrow in 2006, Wilson has become a staple at radio, amassing multiple top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, including “Savior, Please,” “I Refuse,” “Fall Apart,” “Carry Me,” “Before the Morning,” and “That Was Then, This Is Now.”  He’s toured with some of the genre’s biggest acts, including Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Matthew West, Casting Crowns, and Building 429.  Wilson signed his latest record deal with Black River Christian in 2017, and in 2018, released his first single, “Dream Small,” with the new label.  As a multi-instrumentalist and live-looping enthusiast, he’s been known to play and record as many as 20 instruments on stage at any given time.
