The Holland Museum Hosts The Next Books And Blooms Activity At Windmill Island Gardens

The Holland Museum hosted the second Books and Blooms activity of the summer on Monday, June 24!

Each Books and Blooms will begin with a Story Time hosted by the Herrick District Library at 10:00 am, followed by a fun, educational, and hands-on activity at 10:30 am. During the new Books and Blooms series located at Windmill Island Gardens, children can not only enjoy interactive stories, songs, and activities, but also enjoy our children’s carousel, playground, see our two Frisian horses, and 10 chickens all on the park grounds.

This Monday during the second Books and Blooms of the season, children were able to create their very own Blooming Shoes! Our friends from the Holland Museum joined us to help children create origami Dutch wooden shoes, or ‘klompen’, and create various flowers out of pipe cleaners, paper, and more to fill their shoes!

The Holland Museum is located in Downtown Holland and focuses on interaction with history, culture, civic responsibility, and one another. They tell the stories of Holland, and the region, not to dictate how our children and citizens engage the past, but to encourage them to change and build a better future. Visit the Holland Museum to see their current special exhibit ‘A Stich in Time: Lavina Cappon Tulip Time Legacy’ highlighting Lavina Cappon, a former Holland Public Schools teacher, and exploring her influence in shaping the unique aesthetic of Tulip Time. The Holland Museum is open Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 am – 5 pm with their current exhibit on display through September 16.

Families are invited to Windmill Island Gardens every other Monday morning for our new bi-weekly Books and Blooms series from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm through August 12. The bi-weekly Books and Blooms series will begin with an interactive Story Time hosted by the Herrick District Library starting at 10:00 am, followed by a come-and-go style activity led by a local non-profit organization from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm. The full schedule of activities can be found below and on the Books and Blooms Facebook event page. Activities are free to attend for Holland residents, with regular admission rates applying to non-Holland residents. A parent or guardian must remain onsite the entire time to supervise their children. Activities take place in the park on the East side of the Posthouse building at Windmill Island Gardens (1 Lincoln Ave, Holland, MI, 49423).
