Knot on My Watch – Intergenerational Fiber Arts Group

Thursday, September 19 from 3:00 – 4:00pm
Get ‘knotty’ with other crafters who like to knit, crochet, macramé, sew, felt, embroider… bring your projects (or learn something new) and let’s hang out together. A small supply of yarn, macramé cord, and embroidery floss will be provided with limited instruction. This drop-in, no strings attached fiber arts group is open to anyone ages 5 – 105+. FREE.

Preschool Story Time
In-Person at Hackley Library
Friday mornings in September at 10:30am
Intended for ages 0-5, HPL’s in-person Story Time is designed to teach early literacy skills to parents and caregivers, while children enjoy a fun, interactive atmosphere. We’ll read stories, sing songs, and do movement activities! Please check Hackley Library’s Facebook page for any cancellations. Free.

September Youth Take and Make Kits
Available beginning September 3, and through the month while supplies last
Apple Stress Balls:
It’s time to go back to school! Make your own palm-sized stress-reliever that is especially great for kids who suffer from separation anxiety at the start of the school year. Plus, the apple design is on-theme and totally adorable.
Fidget Slider Snakes:
Do you like crafting and having something in your hands to keep them busy? Grab our slider snake take and make. It’s the perfect fidget to take back to school with you!
These craft kits are available through September, while supplies last. Free.

Paws and Read with Breezy and Dolly
In-Person at Hackley Library
Mondays, September 9 & 23 from 4:00 – 5:00pm
We have four-legged reading helpers in Hackley Library’s Youth Services! Practice and strengthen literacy skills by reading out loud to our friendly therapy dogs who are calm, non-judgmental listeners. Call 231-722-8014 to register your child for a 20-minute time slot. Ages 3-12. Free.

Fingerprint Art

Thursday, September 12 from 3:30 – 4:30pm
Boost those fine motor skills with some fingerprint art fun at Hackley Library!
For little ones, fingerprint art is a booster for fine motor and pre-writing skills.
For older kids it’s just plain FUN. We will provide stamp pads and paper at Hackley Library – you provide the fingers! Free.

Teen Craftarama!

Monday, September 16 from 3:30 – 4:30pm
Come spend an hour hanging out and crafting at Hackley Library!
No reasonable request rejected! Perler Beads? Pony Beads? Macrame? We will open the craft cabinets and create for an hour, so join us! Free.

ARRRGH Matey! It’s a “Talk Like a Pirate” Day Fest!

Thursday, September 19 from 3:30 – 4:30pm
That’s right, we’ll be pulling out all the stops for an hour of crafting, talking like a pirate, fun and hijinks! This is a drop-in program at Hackley Library, and all the fun will be available for the entire hour. Great for youths of all ages! Free.

Books on Tap at Pigeon Hill

Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00 – 7:00pm
Join Hackley Library staff and Muskegon Area District Library staff for an evening book discussion each month over a beverage at Pigeon Hill Brewery. Check out the MADL Facebook page to vote on the next book we read. You do not need to be 21+ to participate in book club, but you MUST be 21+ to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages. Financial Lit: Business Banking Basics

In this seminar you will learn the basics of Business Banking! This program is designed to guide you through the essentials of registering your business, setting up your business bank account, and ensuring you leverage your cash flow appropriately.
Whether you are a startup or an established business, come to gain valuable insight and practical applications to enhance your business’ efficiency. This program is in collaboration with Route 31 Credit Union.

Left to Write – Creative Writing Group

2nd Wednesday of each month
If you enjoy creative writing, you’ll love Left to Write, HPL’s very own creative writing group! Here you can participate in writing exercises, share your own stories, and meet other creative writers (of all experiences, new or seasoned!). This group provides a low-key atmosphere for writers of all experiences, and everyone is welcome! Remember to bring paper and your favorite pen. Left to Write will meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 3:30 – 4:30pm. Free.

The Cemetery Super Sleuth
In-Person at Hackley Library
Saturday, September 21 from 10:30 – 12:30pm
In collaboration with the Muskegon County Genealogical Society, this Cemetery Super Sleuth presentation will explore how to identify clues that might be able to point a genealogist towards a research source. We will start with some interesting emblems, symbols, and move onto harder clues, like monument shapes, and even grave lot locations that might give some hints.
